The Township has been making an effort to communicate the locations of known fiber installation work when information is provided to us. However, fiber installation is private utility infrastructure, and the Township has limited authority over the companies’ construction schedules, crews and day-to-day restoration practices. Much of this work takes place within existing utility easements or rights-of-way where utility providers have the legal ability to install and maintain infrastructure.
Commerce Township has communicated updated notification requirements to all fiber installation companies working within the Township. Companies must provide advance notice of upcoming work so that residents can stay informed.
As construction schedules and project information are provided to the Township, updates- including planned work locations, resident notices to below, and available contact information for each installation company- will be posted on this page. Please note that the Township can only share information as we receive it from the installation companies. We appreciate your patience as these projects continue throughout the community. Contact information for each company is also below.
The Township does have an interest in ensuring that work is performed in accordance with applicable permits and requirements, including restoration obligations. When residents experience concerns related to construction, property damage or restoration, we encourage them to report those issues to the utility provider or contractor responsible for the work. The Township can also assist in directing residents to the appropriate contact when necessary. Call the Commerce Township Building Department at 248-960-7060 for assistance. Questions or Inquiries for WOW!:
If you have any issues during the construction process or after restoration, please contact their customer advocates and escalation team by calling 248-773-5022 or to: mich.construction@wowinc.com.
Two weeks before construction, WOW will hang a door hanger on your door to let you know they’re in your area. Here is a note from WOW regarding construction in progress: "Regarding utility markings, workers from your local utility company or contract partner will place markings in the easement to identify the location of underground utilities. Please leave these in place and we will remove them when construction has been completed. Regarding construction, when your area is ready, crews will start laying fiber underground or attaching lines to existing utility poles. Our team members may need to access the utility easement or right of way. We’ll take special care of your lawn and perform necessary restorations due to construction. You can help us by marking any sprinkler systems, invisible dog fences, or private lighting wires.”
