The Charter Township of Commerce, Michigan is excited to announce a comprehensive cross-connection control program, launching with the support of HydroCorp, a leader for over 40 years in water safety and compliance. The township will adopt policies and procedures related to water safety and conduct on-site cross-connection control surveys to support clean water throughout the community.

The program will encompass both residential and commercial properties, with the goal of securing the entire water system. It is set to launch in July, and HydroCorp will begin conducting on-site surveys to identify unprotected cross-connections and provide recommendations to improve backflow prevention measures.

The township’s water safety and compliance activities will now include:

  • A cross-connection control plan based on best practices: The plan, customized to Commerce Township, is compliant with federal requirements, Michigan regulations, and industry standards. From surveys and survey frequencies to backflow prevention techniques, Commerce Township will be on the cutting edge of drinking water safety.
  • On-site surveys: Surveys will detect backflow hazards and ensure the proper installation of any backflow preventers across the community.
  • Comprehensive activity and compliance reporting: Commerce Township will use the latest cloud-based technology to track program activities, including surveys, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Public education initiatives: Everyone plays a role in protecting Commerce Township’s water system. A core aspect of cross-connection control is helping residents and businesses understand the risk of backflow and how to keep their buildings compliant.

Commerce Township has partnered with HydroCorp to ensure best practices and minimize disruption and cost to community members. Property owners will receive advance notice of any surveys and a member of HydroCorp’s team of trained and certified technicians will complete the survey efficiently and professionally.
