In November 2022, voters approved Proposal 2022-2 which gives voters the right to cast a ballot early and in person at an Early Voting Site before Election Day.

The Charter Township of Commerce is partnering with Oakland County Elections to host an Early Voting Site at the Commerce Township Community Library for all elections. The EV Site will allow voters in Commerce Township, City of Walled Lake and City of Wixom to cast their ballot in-person during the 9 days of early voting beginning the second Saturday before every election.

Early Voting hours are 8:30am-4:30pm every day except on Thursday, when the hours are 12:00 noon – 8:00pm. 

The early voting canvass for Early Voting Site 8 consisting of Commerce Township, the City of Walled Lake, and the City of Wixom, will take place after the polls close at 8:00 p.m. on November 3, 2026.

In addition, all voters in Oakland County will have a second EV Site which is located at: Waterford Oaks Activity Center, 2800 Watkins Lake Rd, Waterford MI 48328.

The early voting dates and times for the November election are as follows:
10/24 through 10/28: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
10/29 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
10/30 through 11/1: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Early voting is unavailable on Monday, November 2, 2026.

All drop boxes are checked at least once a day beginning 35 days prior to each election until 8:00pm on Election Day. These secure drop boxes are all open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, placed in well-lit public areas under video surveillance.

The conduct of all federal, state, county, city, township, village and school elections will be restricted to four dates each year: the fourth Tuesday in February, and the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May, August and November.

AV ballots available for in person pick up beginning 9-24-2026 at 7:15 a.m.

AV ballots will be mailed to all voters who previously requested an absentee ballot and voters on
the permanent ballot list the week of September 28, 2026.

You may obtain an absentee ballot using any of the following methods:

1. Visit the Clerk’s Office and apply for and receive your ballot in person.

2. Call the Clerk’s Office at 248-960-7020 and request that an AV application be mailed to
you. Complete and return the application in person or via mail. If the application is
returned by mail, then the ballot will be mailed to you.

3. Request an absent voter ballot online at the Michigan Secretary of State’s website.
Complete the AV application electronically online and the ballot will be mailed to you.

4. Email your request for an absent voter ballot directly to the Clerk’s Office at
commerceclerks@commercetwp.com. Your emailed request must include your name,
address, date of birth, signature, and a stated request for an absent voter ballot for the
November 3, 2026 election. Your ballot will be mailed to you.

Deadlines to keep in mind:
1. All absent voter ballots must be returned to the Clerk’s Office by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
November 3, 2026.

2. The last day the Clerk’s Office may mail an absent voter’s ballot is Friday, October 30,
2026 at 4:00 p.m. No ballots may be mailed after this deadline has elapsed.

3. Deadline for a registered voter to apply for an absent voter’s ballot in person at the
Clerk’s Office is Monday, November 2, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

Precinct Inspectors are people who are paid to assist voters at the polls on Election Day. You must be a registered voter in the State of Michigan to work as an election inspector. If you are interested in serving as an election inspector, please submit an election inspector application to your local Clerk’s Office.
