On behalf of our entire staff, thank you for your interest in our Fire Department. We are committed to providing the community of Commerce Township with the best service possible and upholding the core values of integrity, honor and pride.
The Commerce Township Fire Department is a combination department consisting of 32 full-time Firefighters plus the Chief and Fire Marshal, as well as 12 part-time or paid-on-call Firefighters. All of our Firefighters are highly trained graduates of the fire academy and at minimum, Basic EMT level of medical care. The department conducts mandatory training at least twice a month in all areas of firefighting, rescue and EMS.
The Township is serviced by four (4) fire stations, which house the following equipment: (4) fire engines, (4) Basic EMT transporting medical units, (1) 3500 gallon tanker, (1) brush truck and (1) aerial ladder truck, and a rescue boat trailer. Each of the four fire stations are manned by at least two career fire fighters 24 hours a day – seven days a week.
During 2022, the Commerce Township Fire Department responded to 4,246 emergency calls for service.
The Department hosts our annual Fire Department Open House on the first Sunday in October. (Noon – 3pm)
The Commerce Township Fire Department is always looking for new members that are living in the Commerce area to better serve our community. (Application forms are available on this website or at any fire station) Candidates are required to live in the immediate area (within one mile of the Township borders) have a high school diploma, 18 years of age, a good driving record and be physically fit. Our department has an annual hiring process for our part-time / paid-on-call firefighters. This is usually held in the summer of each year. Fire academy classes are usually held in the fall of each year.
