A WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF: (Joe Schornack – firstname.lastname@example.org)
On behalf of everyone at the Commerce Township Fire Department, I would like to welcome you to our website. It is with pleasure that we can provide the residents of this Township an informational and educational site for your assistance.
The Commerce Township Fire Department is a combination department consisting of 17 full-time personnel and 20-30 part-time or paid-on-call firefighters. All members receive training twice a month for various firefighting duties as well as medical training. EMS personnel are licensed with the State of Michigan and full-time personnel are licensed as paramedics or emergency medical technicians.
The Department is always accepting applications for paid-on-call personnel. (Application form available on this website or at any fire station) You are required to live in the immediate area (within one mile of the Township borders) have a high school diploma, 18 years of age, a good driving record and be physically fit. Our department has an annual hiring process for our part-time / paid-on-call firefighters. This is usually held in June of each year. Applications are kept on file for a two-year period, so if you application is on file, we will notify you when we have openings. Fire academy classes are usually held in the fall of each year.
The Township is serviced by four (4) fire stations, which house the following equipment: (4) fire engines, (3) medical units, (2) rescue units, (1) tanker, (1) brush truck and (1) aerial ladder truck. Each of the four fire stations are manned 24 hours a day – seven days a week.
During 2013, the Commerce Township Fire Department responded to 2,477 calls for service. The majority of our calls are medical in nature, but other calls include fires, down wires, smoke/fire/CO alarms, public education requests and various types of citizen assists.
The Department hosts an annual Fire Department Open House at the Richardson Center on the first Sunday in October. (noon – 3pm)
Burning permits are available at any fire station for a $5.00 charge. (checks are not accepted)
Thank you for visiting – feel free to call if you have any questions. 248-560-0051.
