Ralph C. Richardson Community Center and Park

This park is located at 1485 Oakley Park Rd, across from Walled Lake Central High School, between South Commerce and Newton Rd.  The park lies on the north side of Oakley Park Rd and is adjacent to Reed Lake.  The Richardson family donated this site to the township for the construction of a Community Center.  Additionally, this site is home to the only natural prairie land east of the Mississippi River.  Nature trails are available in this area and markers identifying a variety of tree species can be viewed on the trail completed by an Eagle Scout project in the 1990’s.  It is also the home of a new playscape for children between the ages of 5-12. This playscape was purchased with funds from the millage passed by the voters of Commerce Township in November 2004.

The Community Center can be rented by Commerce Residents for a minimal fee for weddings, parties (graduation parties & political related events are prohibited at the facility), family reunions, etc.  For rental information and availability contact Emily Dubey, Director of Senior, Parks and Recreational Services, at (248) 926-0063.  Neighborhood home owner associations and groups may utilize the facility for meetings during the week free of fees with the approval of the Parks and Recreation Committee.  Non-Profit organizations within the township can request a waiver of rental fees from the Parks and Recreation Committee for special events or fundraisers.  The center is available to community groups Monday thru Thursday from 3:30pm to 2:00am, and residents Friday 3:30pm to 2:00am, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am to 2:00am.  All dates/uses can be scheduled only one (1) year in advance.  Specific policies and procedures are available at the center.
