CALL TO ORDER: Supervisor Thomas Zoner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and introduced the members of the Board.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

MOTION by Abrams, supported by Gross, to approve the Regular Township Board Meeting Minutes of August 15, 2006, with a correction to page 3:  Item 6A, add to Motion:  “which will include the date (August 16, 2004) the 6% began”; and the Special Joint Meeting Minutes of August 29, 2006, as presented.

PRESENTATIONS:

Lakes Area Youth Assistance

 

Deborah Lindsey, Youth Assistance Caseworker, gave a review of the Lakes Area Youth Assistance Organization and the many fundraisers, programs, and services that our communities continue to benefit from.

ITEM 2:9-12  EAGLE SCOUT CEMETERY PROJECT

 

Nicholas Rudofski, Member of BSA Troop 104 of Walled Lake and Eagle Scout Applicant, gave a review of the proposed project for the Commerce Memorial Cemetery.

 

MOTION by Munro, supported by Abrams, to approve the Proposed Eagle Scout Cemetery Project.

Supervisor Zoner opened the meeting to public comments:

 

Inquiry as to why there is not a “Friends of Library” group.

 

Reminder of the Taste of the Lakes Fundraiser for Lakes Area Youth Assistance.

A.  An Amendment to the Charter Township of Commerce Zoning Ordinance No. 55, to Rezone 1390 Laura Lane from R-2B, Two Family Residential, to R-1C, Single Family Residential, to be known as Ordinance No. 55-06-193.

 

MOTION by Munro, supported by Abrams, to Introduce an Amendment to Ordinance No. 55, the Charter Township of Commerce Zoning Ordinance, to be known as Ordinance No. 55-06-193, and publish and post in the manner prescribed by law and bring back for Adoption at the next regular scheduled Township Board of Trustees Meeting.

A.  An Ordinance to Adopt the Michigan Motor Carrier Safety Act and to Provide for Enforcement of the Ordinance and Penalties for Violations to be known as Ordinance No. 102-06-0. – No Action Taken 8-15-06

 

MOTION by Sovel, supported by Gross, to Adopt the Michigan Motor Carrier Safety Act Ordinance and to Provide for Enforcement of the Ordinance and Penalties for Violations to be known as Ordinance No. 102-06-0 and to publish and post according to law.

MOTION by Abrams, supported by Gross, to remove High Pointe Special Assessment District Establishment Resolution from the table.

MOTION by Gross, supported by Abrams, to approve the High Pointe Special Assessment District Establishment Resolution in the sum of $22,166.50 and shall end on December 31, 2007.

Kevin Kendall, Republic Waste General Manager, was present to explain the proposed fuel surcharge.

MOTION by Abrams, supported by Gross, to Direct the Township Attorney to hire an Environmental Consultant for Environmental Assessment for 600 acres in an amount not to exceed $25,000.00.  Funds to come from Parks and Recreation Millage.

·                    Discussion of magazine article regarding Commerce Township and the          Downtown Development Authority to appear in the December issue.
