Special Assessment Districts (S.A.D.)

 

  1. Property owner to canvass the area to find out interests.

 

  1. If it appears that 51% of the property owners would be interested, the Assessing Department will set up a meeting with             

    the township engineers to map out the district.    

   

  1. The township attorneys and engineers will prepare the petition with the estimated cost.

 

4. Property owner will pick up petition and get necessary signatures.

 

5. Property owners submit necessary signatures on petition to Assessing Department (whomever is on Property Deed must sign).

 

6. Assessing Department will verify signatures to ensure that the minimum 51% of the property owners have signed the petition.

 

7. If the 51% of the property owners have signed the petition, it will then go to the Township Board for the first meeting (Intention to Undertake Project).

    

8. Engineers will go out for bids for the project to determine the cost of the project.

 

9. Publication and notices to property owners in the district will go out at least 10 days before second meeting (Public Comments).

 

   10. Once bids are approved, the second Township Board meeting will occur.

 

   11. The Assessing Department will prepare the S.A.D. Roll.

 

   12. Publication and notices to property owners in the district will go at least 10 days before third meeting (Hearing on Roll).

 

   13. A third meeting will be held by the Township Board to approve the Special Assessment Roll.
